BLOCKHEADS 2 - Week 50

It's a classic for a reason. The Vintage block! (or Broken Dishes). This week's block is brought to you by Sherri McConnell and you can find it HERE.  It's the perfect block to use up scraps, and you know how I love that.

What else is going on here? I tried to make some Hot Cross Buns last weekend.
Sadly, they were a big miss. There wasn't just one issue - there were three. First of all you can see the recommended size pan was too small and the center wasn't cooked.  Second, they were "cakey" instead of a bread texture.  Not good.  Lastly, the recipe called for 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves. That's what I put in, but it was way too much. All you could taste was the cloves.  I hope the birds and raccoons enjoyed them (they got tossed into the back bushes). I am having a real losing streak with yeast breads lately.

I'm still working on my Northport quilts getting them ready for Quilt Market in Kansas City in a few weeks.  In the meantime, the hard working Moda Sales reps are showing samples to quilt shops all over the world right now.

BLOCKHEADS 2 - Week 48

We are at week 48, people! Almost to the finish line.  I have assembled my top and it is being quilted by Maggi right now.  I'll be able to show you my finished quilt when we show the last block!

Oh, I have a lot to show you this week.  This is my block for Blockheads 2 - Ann Arbor and you can find the directions HERE.  How this block came about was from a trip to Cranbook last spring.  They had a superb exhibit of Alexander Girard, who was once on staff there.  It was the most inspiring show I have ever seen.  This is my version of his graphic style.  He designed furniture, architecture, textiles, and was incredibly prolific.  What I remember most is his personal notebooks and drawings from childhood. When he was at boarding school in England right after the first World War, he invented and designed his own country. He drew maps, buildings, and designed military uniforms, postage stamps, money, flags, and much, much more.  It was amazing.

The brilliant sales staff of Moda Fabrics is showing our next collection to shops!  Crystal Lake has just landed in shops and this one......... Northport will be there in September.

We're pretty excited about it! 40 amazing prints and 29 wovens!

I started making my quilts with it and I'll have more to show you in the next couple of weeks.
This is the Leo quilt in progress on my wall.

I received some more exciting news.......

And last, but not least.....everything in our Etsy shop is 17% off if you use the coupon code PATRICK this week. :)

BLOCKHEADS 2 - Week 47

It's week 47 of Blockheads 2 and this block is brought to you by Jan Patek and you can find the directions HERE.

What is going on here is..... lots of top secret sewing.  You know what that means - we're getting ready to introduce a new fabric collection at the end of the month.

In the meantime... I saw these lovely creations on Instagram using our patterns and fabrics.

This one by Karen Rantis uses the basket block pattern from Portage Lake Block of the Month.  She just kept making baskets and now I want to too. Lovely, Karen!

Kate made Hurrah! with lots of Minick and Simpson fabrics and now I want to make it again.  I've already made this quilt twice and a third time wouldn't be too much, would it?

Now, I must get back to cutting and pressing fabric - so I'll be ready for the big reveal
