Year End News

We hope your holidays are going splendidly.

They are for us.  I am finishing up some projects and starting some new ones....

I sewed on the binding to this oldie, but goodie - the Blue Nantucket
It's now in Polly's studio.  The loveseat expands into guest bed - and it needed an appropriate blue quilt.

Now it is all ready for visiting grandchildren.

I am planning on a new scrap quilt and have made piles of fabric to audition.  I'm pretty happy with these - all Minick and Simpson scraps except for one which is a Cabbages and Roses floral from Moda Fabrics.

My mind is running wild with possibilities.

And now for a little GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS to end the year.  First the bad news.  We will have to stop all of the download sales in our Etsy store.  So today, tomorrow and early on New Years Eve - that will be the end of downloads.   All of our patterns will be available in paper patterns mailed to you the old fashioned way after January 1st, 2015.  On New Year's Eve I will take the downloads off the site.  Until then - it's a SALE!!! If you want to purchase any download -Just use the coupon code - ETSYFAIL.  All downloads are 30% off.

Yeah, its ETSYFAIL.

That's because of a convoluted problem facing small business owners, VAT, The European Union, taxes, virtual goods, and places like Etsy - the solution to this problem is NO SOLUTION.

I have no problem paying the taxes I owe.  Just tell me how, where and how much.  No one is helping, particularly venues like Etsy (which I LOVE, otherwise).  C'mon Etsy - try to help us and not hinder us.

Ok, I got that off my chest.

Now for the good news.  I have no idea what it is - it's just a feeling that is going around Ann Arbor.  A buzz. Some good energy, indeed.

There is an article on about the VAT changes. It is called Small Companies are Nimble: Indiesew is ready for VAT changes. I don't have a sewing business, but was interested to read. I had no idea that this was happening. I hope it is resolved soon.

About the buzz, everything happens for a reason & I feel like this is truly meant to be. How exciting for Michigan!

I truely hate this VAT thing! I'm European, from Germany, and I have no idea why and who is doing this it just means for me and a lot of other persons that a whole bunch of online businesses stop selling PDFs and now I have to pay for shipping (and wait a whole lot longer and have the risk that my purchase perhaps will get lost). If there's such a thing like a 'Stop this nonsense VAT' out there please let me know because I'll sign it in a second.
Hope you still have a great New Year 2015!!!

I still have the red Nantucket quilt in its pretty pail sitting on a shelf in my quilting room. Perhaps this new year I will make it.

Buzz = football coach announcement tomorrow???

I have the red Nantucket ready to go, too!

Good luck with the pdf issue - this is going to put a lot of small sellers out of business. Sad.

Not one to let a bargain pass me by, I'm off now to shop at your Etsy Store.

I am so buzzed about the buzz that I cannot sleep. If I do fall asleep, it will be under my red Nantucket quilt. Go Blue!

Sorry to hear about all the ETSY problems. Guess I should go on and see what I need...or want. AND...CONGRATULATIONS on the new UofM Coach. I have a feeling it's going to be a great year for MI GO BLUE. (But I have to say, I am also a Spartan fan as my son graduated from there and they are a great team as well) Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you and Polly! The Blue Nantucket looks lovely in Polly's studio. I just started the Candy Cane rug a few weeks ago and have been thinking of you guys lately. Sorry to hear about the ETSY and VAT issues for downloads - sad end result for both the consumer and the seller. Too bad they both lose. Congrats on Jim Minick's appointment if that is correct terminology. At the risk of being shot - I am not much of a football fan but I'm sure it's wonderful for family and fans. take care Melody

In the 70's I made many of my clothes so when buying fabric it was always 2 to 4 yrs. at a time. Not sure what year but I thought I'd make some Christmas stuff using fabric so off I went and found this wonderful fabric: Christmas Past but I must tell you I never looked at who the designers were, fast forward 2012 I took up quilt making and started to build my stash, now Christmas 2014 I break out my old Christmas fabric and I see it's made by Polly Minick & Lauri Simpson( that on the salvage your full names) I've made 7 quilts so far and 3 have been with Minick& Simpson fabric! My very first quilt made and gave away was with your fabric line..I love you guys and I just wanted to share...Happy New Year and Happy Designing, I hope to add more to my stash,I'm now hunting for more Christmas Past...if you have any for sale please let me know! Fondly, Teresa Ramirez- Higashi
