Polly and I have several Schoolhouses schedule for Thursday afternoon, but with a little luck, I will find my way to the museum beforehand. I've already mapquested it and it's 2 miles from the Convention Center. Either a nice morning walk, or a short cab ride. I guess it's no surprise to anyone who has read this blog for awhile that this might be something I was interested in. Baseball - check. American History - check. Inspirational stories - check. Awesome vintage uniforms - check. Don't forget, the best nicknames in sports: Cool Papa Bell, Satchel Paige, Bunny Downs, Rats Henderson, Spoony Palm, Steelarm Davis, and King Tutt. They also had a kid who played once named Jackie Robinson.

We often try to get to Comerica Park in Detroit every year when they celebrate the Negro Leagues. Ironically, this year, it will be the weekend I am in Kansas City. The Detroit Stars, the local team that was a member of the Negro Leagues is always represented there. The Tigers offer many events and the team will don the replica jerseys of the Stars.

I love these old jerseys. This was the home jersey and the visiting jersey is pretty cool too.
I hope to take lots of picture of the museum AND Market. Later
Laurie

Now I'm really depressed. I would have tagged along to the HOF whether you liked it or not. :)
Have a safe trip and a terrific time ~ and a grand adventure following. (Take good notes.)
Hi to the sister!
You left out Buck O'Neil! Great guy...met him in the early 90's down at the museum.
Please take a taxi to the museum, as the neighborhoods between the hotel and the meseum are "rough".
Have fun and enjoy the museum. (You are going to love it!)
Laurie, Please take the taxi to the museum! Regardless of what you hear, the best bar-be-que is at Oklahoma Joe's or for more $$$ and ritzier atmosphere, Jack Stack's. Have fun and do well.
ok. I have to disagree with Edie.
For a true KC BBQ experienc you need to got to Rosedales, Gates or Aurther Bryants. However, if you are looking for the tastiest BBQ, Rosedales on the Boulevard is the only choice! There is no better place for french fries (per restaurant reviews, and my husband Brian).
If you have an hour or two of free time on Saturday or Sunday, I would love to treat you to BBQ.
You will enjoy reading "Calico Joe" by John Grisham. With enough real and true baseball facts and names, but with a warm human fictional story in between.
It was in the late 20's that my) father's job was to drive a Negro Baseball team from game to game in the South. He said many a night they all had to sleep in the car (a big 'old Caddy) because the players were denied hotel rooms. A sad time in our society.
