I am stopped in several projects right now. I am waiting on a half yard of fabric to arrive in the mail to continue my sewing and cutting of this.

I am also at a standstill for a bunch of other chores. I won't bore you with the details. (hasn't stopped me before though, has it?) The taxes are half done. My calendar and scheduling is half done. What to do???? I hereby cancel this quilt and rug blog for one day and therefore appoint this day as the official
Colin Firth Appreciation Day.I know I have told you that
Love Actually is both Minick
and Simpsons favorite holiday movie. Mr. Colin Firth contributes greatly to this feat.

You also might have picked up on this blog that I am a Janite (Jane Austen, that is) and Mr. Firth DEFINED what a Mr. Darcy should be in the classic
Pride and Prejudice.

(I don't just have one copy of this dvd - I have the original
and the
digitally enhanced version!)
Let's not forget he has a sense of humor and both reprised and satirized this beloved role in
Bridget Jones Diary as Mr. Mark Darcy.

Today, on this cold and snowy day (with no imminent pressing chores) we are going to go see
The King's Speech starring none other than Colin Firth. As the Brits would say - "Brilliant!"

I, too, am a Jane Austen fan, and Colin was the perfect Mr. Darcy in every way!
I can't wait to see this movie. I love Helena Bonham Carter, as well....she is so versatile! British prim and proper one moment, then Harry Potter and Fight Club the next! Wow!
Your doll quilt is beautiful!
Oops....looking at too many blogs at once.....what doll quilt, right? Sorry!
Can't wait to see what you're doing with those strips!
I, too, love CF, esp in Pride and Prejudice. Watched a bit of it this week as a matter of fact. Please post a review of the new movie - would love to see it - have heard Oscar rumors.
I had forgotten about my love for the good Colin Firth. Thank you for reminding me :) I am going to see if I can drag my mum to see the new movie... or even better still, my dad who claims boastfully that he hasn't stepped foot in a movie theatre 40 years..
I am also a big admirer of your collective works. Just been too lazy to post :)
I'm with you on the Colin Firth love!! I don't know how many times I've watched his Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. I will admit I haven't seenfor Love Actually...it is on my "to watch" list. Thanks!
"The King's Speech" is a wonderful movie. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we did. Will be awaiting your movie review!
Oh My I LOVE CF too..I deliberately watch movie's he's in...to drool.
He is wonderful, isn't he?
But how could you not mention Mamma Mia? I know... not his very best work and maybe not what he would want to be remembered for, but he was so funny! I loved that he was so obviously having fun in the closing sequence.
I hope you enjoyed the movie. :)
I think you are going to absolutely love "The King's Speech"! I saw it last week and it cemented my appreciation of Colin Firth --- as if it needed cementing!!
You will love The King's Speech. And all anglophiles should watch Downton Abbey on Masterpiece Theater (lacks Colin Firth but other Brits appear).
The Kings Speech is brilliant. I hope it wins at the Academy Awards. I think there should be a National Colin Firth day, He is so gorgeous and talented. No one comes close to him as Darcy.
I hope that you loved the movie - I did! Mr. Firth was also wonderful in "A Single Man". I'll bet he gets an Oscar this year!
I love "Love Actually" my sil was able to pull off the "Love is all you need" choir for their daughters wedding 3 years ago, an outside balcony at sunset...fabulous! And Mr dDrcy...well ya gotta swoon!
Can't think of a better reason for a blog interruption than Colin!
and he is certainly one to appreciate! :) I adore Love Actually. And yes, I watch it often throughout the year and of course at Christmas. It's a beautifully interwoven movie and I love Colin's character in it.
Love, love, love Colin Firth. Did you recognize Jennifer Ehle (his Lizzie) in the King's Speech? She was Geoffrey Rush's wife.
I adore Colin Firth. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite of his movies. I watch it all the time.
If you have a chance to get to Chatsworth, where p&p was filmed (last), it's Devine!
England needs all the help it can get, glad it now has Colin firth on its side....
I wanna go! I wanna go! Jolly good film, eh? Let usknow what you think of it...
I love, love, love Colin Firth. I don't believe he's ever been in a bad movie. I can't wait to see "the King's Speech" and I hear he will be an oscar contender for his performance in it.
I loved this movie. Bet you did too!
I'm planning to see that this weekend. The movie looks fascinating but Firth is a huge reason why I want to see it. I don't think I've ever seen anything with him that I don't like. I adore the Importance of Being Earnest. I just read that he won Best Actor at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards last night.
Colin Firth is the best solutions to a cold and snowy day like the one we're having in Canada today. Hmmm. Just the thought of him warms me up, right down to my toes! Hope you loved the movie!!
How increadible, the trailer gave me goosebumps. I must watch this movie. Let us know what you thought of it.
Thought of you last night when I heard he is getting a star in Hollywood.
So, what did y'all think of the movie?!
Ps
Keep forgetting to ask... Is this a French braid?
On my blog, i showed a French braid quilt I made on JUNE 5, 2010
I cant do much with this iPad, so I don't blog anymore really or get to blogs, as you can tell by my stupid questions because I'm not current on yours,,,,,
Sigh
Anyways, I loved the French braid and think your scraps would suit it well.
I have lots of your scraps left over and jelly roll strips really suiit the pattern. (So, this has been on my to do list, but have had baby quilts thst needed to be finished )I did put strips of a solid between the braids to break it up, but would make a neat border.
He is so cute! I can't wait to see the movie either...
Checking In
Well, it took me a week longer to find time - but Tom and I went to see King's Speech last evening and we both loved it - will be surprised to find someone who does not like it. A must see movie, and you know we do not get as many "must see" anymore.

Oh how could I have missed the Official Colin Firth day!!! I am a huge Jane Austen fan, and yes I agree that Colin Firth IS Mr Darcy. So no matter how far he runs and hides, he will forever be Mr Darcy. I would love to see The Kings Speech when it comes out on DVD.
