It's a new year with lots of new starts. I have penciled in new calendars and bought boxes and files to organize. There has been lots of crossing off of things on my many, many lists. My next chore will be the dreaded taxes. Consider this an advance apology for the cranky mood I am sure to be in next week. I get this way every January as I hope to achieve Martha Stewart like efficiency by the end of the year; (Polly like efficiency would be better) yet every January finds me in dust and chaos. Hope springs eternal.
Do you make similar plans every January? I won't call them resolutions as that will doom them to failure. What is your wish for the new year? Comment about your plans (or pie-in-the-sky delusions) and you will be eligible for our new Green shopping bag. Comment before Midnight Saturday, and you never know..... it also might be filled with some goodies. Hey, I am cleaning house ; )

Laurie, I quit making New Year "plans" years ago! And you are right - calling them resolutions dooms them to failure...
So no plans for me! I am stress free! LOL

I am resolved to finish the projects I have started that are all over my house. As incentive, I am not going to buy new projects until I finish the old ones. I really mean it this time.
Laurie (& Polly) I chose one little word to focus on throughout this year. Not really a resolution, but a commitment to myself for 2009. TRUTH is the word I chose...and part of what that means for me is to face up to who I am/who I want to be and start taking steps toward that end.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
I made several 'green' totes and gave them as Christmas gifts, but never did make one for myself.
Always love reading your blog!
What a cool bag! Luckily, I had 4 January days before I headed back to school, so I took care of my New Year's Resolution -- to paint over the dark, dark paneling at the cottage (a Resolution 3 years in the making). It's now yellow. VERY yellow. It needs a few quilts on the wall ... ah, see how one resolution leads to another?
my new year's desire is to get into my sewing room every week, sew something wonderful and produce finished items. I tend to get lazy after working all day so my start button needs a little repair and I'm good to go (I HOPE)
Laurie,
Ditto Ruth! I must have about a dozen projects still unfinished.
Sorry to hear about your bug. I had it New Year's Eve. Not fun!

My hope for this year is that I can say NO!...to extra projects, to things at work, and things that take me away from my own family and time. Also, to make a few projects for charity. In other words, be selfish AND giving at the same time!
Also, I want to finish alot more UFO's...REALLY...YEP, that's what I'm gonna do...YES I AM!!! :)
Sorry you've been under the weather ~ hopefully, it will soon be all sunny in your world!!
My goal for the year is to hook a bit every day ~ some days more than others, I hope ~ but to get some loops in every day!!!

Cool bag! I don't make resolutions - but I do plan to try and use more of my stash this year!
Every year, I clean my sewing room and tell myself I'm only going to work on one project at a time. Before I start another one, I will totally clean up my sewing room. Ha! Haaaaaaa! You should see my sewing room right now.
I don't make resolutions about loosing bad habits. Instead, each year I resolve to learn a new skill. In 2009 I plan to learn to make my own soap. I've been reading up on the subject and will put this new information into action once our kitchen remodel is completed.
I try and chose something to learn each year.
this year is to learn and cook more from scratch and try and eat more organic foods.
I love the bag! would be great to take shopping...
good luck with the Dreaded Taxes...
glad your starting to feel better.

My goals this year are to finish
up my projects that I have started and not buy anything new. I need to go shopping in my own sewing room.
I enjoy reading your blog and the things you have to share with us.
Glad you are starting to feel better.
The bag is great!
Wow! you sound exactly like me right now! I went and purchase several storage bins for all my fabric I am bound and determined to get organized this year! Does this ever really happen??? I love your blog. Maybe I can finish a project or two this year!
Ohhh plans, I like that as opposed to resolutions. Less pressure. I hope to make a clever project for a new blog winky wink and have fun and meet cool people and hang out with cool people and sew stuff and feel happy! Anything above and beyond that would be gravy!
Glad you're feeling better. We had the crud as well. Not cool. Happy New Year!
well for a switch i'd like to get my garage organized this year. Everything is just stacked against the wall, so i'd like to get some shelving units put in there and clean out my tiny outdoor storage closit.
For an immediate goal, I would like to finish hand quilting a wall quilt made from The Hamptons fabrics in time for the guild show. Then, for this year's goal I would like to finally organize the household paperwork. Wait - that was last year's goal....and the year before that....and....

I made a list of projects begun with love, but abandoned. I still love them, so I've made a plan. For every two projects that are completed, I can begin a new one. I did this in 2008 and it helped. But most of all, I just want to enjoy each day!
I had a big "new year" planning today in fact. Every so often it hits me. A need to be more organized and thus less stressed. I have been able to sustain this for periods of time so I know this will make my life better. I just don't understand why I can't keep it going. I must be one of those people who can only be good in spurts. :D
Hope you are feeling a bunch better quickly.
I don't seem to keep resolutions, so I started my change right before the holidays. This year it is going to the gym - so far it hasn't been too bad, hopefully it will become a "can't live without" habit.
Oh, I'm not too into making resolutions. Just trying to finish up projects and keep ahead of my mess! Sometimes it works, sometimes not so good! Best wishes to you and Polly for the New Year! sandi setelzrow@grandecom.net
I always love the start of the new year...and many of my goals for the new year are quilt-related...but I'm never too hard on myself if I don't accomplish everything! I try to make fun and simple goals...so for this year it is to finish an old project each month and to start a new, fun project each month!
Sorry to hear you aren't feeeling well.
My New Year's resolutions are to get back to exercising regularly, sew at least a little every day and stay current on my 2 BOMs. I'll be happy if I come close :-)
My wish is that I will get 'brave' and make a big change in my life with regard to my work. There's gotta be a way to pay the bills and love what you do...and I'm on a mission to figure it out this year! :o)
Laurie that "bug" is travelling the world from Toronto Ontario to Tasamania Australia..get over it quick have missed you posting.
I posted on my blog mostly that I would like to finish what I started in 2008 especially my Reaching for the stars quilt. It sits on a quilt that needs to be finished quilting. Projects on top of projects isn't quilting grand always tomorrow to look forward to...don't overtax yourself cleaning house as yet!! get well.
I am not very good at resolutions but this year I would like to get rid of the clutter and anything that is not conducive to me being able to enjoy quilting, gardening and follow up with my plans.Clutter is all of the UFO's that I have waiting for my intention. There are many items(including fabric and UFO's I am no longer interested in...WWIT) in the house that I could do without so a yard sale, giving to charity and giving to friends will help me remove some of the clutter.
I too have had this cold since Dec. 18th and still have coughing spells.Hope you get better soon.
Marilyn
I have goals rather than resolutions; to finish more quilts then get added to the to-do list. And to save enough money to move into my own place (which should help with spending less on fabric, theoretically...)
Laurie,
I've pulled out all my quilt tops and am deciding which need hand quilting and which can go to machine quilter...then need to figure out how to pay for the machine quilting...looks like my dozen of punchneedle pieces that need completing might come in handy for eBay sales...I've organizing my life and house for about two years and am almost there~
I made goals and listed them on my blog. I even joined Abyquilts challenge to finish one project a month this year. We'll see. I'd like to use more of the fabric I have on hand but I am not feeling bad about buying more...I consider a trip to the quilt shop "therapy in a bag"/ same with an online order!
I set goals and don't make resolutions. That way if I don't achieve what I want to do, I still have something to work for. That's my plan anyway.......
I just want to lose some weight and put a big dent in my current stash....so I won't feel guilty buying more! LOL
Laurie,
I always resolve to try harder and keep my act in gear, but like alot of people, I don't always see success! But, at least, I try.
Lynn
I started calling them "goals" instead. Something to strive for seemed better than resolutions, which sounds like something that has to be done and gives me lots of guilt. My goals are the same every year: get house organized and decluttered and get lots of quilting UFOs done. So far, I'm still strivin' LOL!
I just try to take it on as it comes. Resolutions only set me up for disappointment!
Thanks for your contest offering.
Since you said wish, My WISH for the new year is out of my control, but for and improved economy and peace. What I can control is doing more volunteering and donating.
Hi Laurie, my wish for the new year is to try and learn how to blog and then move onto uploading pictures.I follow your site daily. Wish me luck. Quilt Gal Val
Hi Laurie,
My goals for the new year are to be healthier, wealthier and maybe a bit wiser. We are a military family and we move quite often, so one of the things I am focusing on is to streamline my life - my waist and my household goods. Hope you have success in reaching your goals this year.
Laura
Hi Laurie,
I don't make resolutions either! My "plans" include relaxing more, stressing out over little things less, finishing up those unfinished projects...and...making a dent in my stash. Guess all of us have pretty similar plans! I was also thinking that I'd like to learn to knit, but after reading your recent experience...I'm not so sure about it! Have a great weekend everyone!
I make the same resolution every year ~ not to make any more resolutions. I do think about what goals I have for the coming year but I don't resolve to do "x, y and z in 2009." Trying to be "better than I am" is already an everyday thing... and that's hard enough!
Taxes? Huh? You mean we're supposed to do those EVERY year? Uh-oh... :)
2009 is going to be all about ME. I am going to take better care of myself and stitch more for me. Why you may ask...I deserve it! Love your new bag.
Hi
I am also making a New Years Resolution - and mine is to not be such a "slug" regarding blogging and helping Laurie a bit - she does it all - as you know!
Polly
I have not made any resolutions for 2009 as I never accomplished the ones from 1985 - 2008. Oh well, it wasn't for lack of trying. Sometimes life gets in the way of my plans.
I would LOVE to be the winner of your "green" bag. I have become a "green" girl. All of my grocery shopping is done with reuseable bags and I have 3 different quilt "green" bags. Basically I am a Bag Lady.
I will have my fingers crossed.
BTW, Happy New Year and Good Luck with your taxes!

My plans are to finish a few quilt tops that I have sitting here waiting to be quilted, to reorganize my home office and my sewing room.

Classy tote bag! I'm planning to continue to quilt every spare minute I can in 2009. Also to clear out my overcrowded house.
I like that, wishes not resolutions. My wish for 2009 is to finish some of my sewing projects.
Hi Laurie,
The only resolution I have is to allow myself more stitching time! Happy new year, Mary
I think I have tried every scheme, every organizational chart, every calendar, what have you and I think that is the part that I can say with certainty that is organized!!! Every January is a great new wish.....!!! Yep, every January those hopes, dreams, or "wishes" are a yearly ritual!!!
Everything else is a blur. But I have found that if I do one little thing to get me to that wish.....well, then I strike gold by the end of my rainbow!
woo hoo....clean that house MY way!!!! Happy New Year. XXX Annelies
Thankfully we missed the 'bug' and sorry it got ya. I have plans to practice curved seams and applique so I improve, and to finish six quilt tops this year.
I am looking forward to all the new fabrics this year...Happy 2009!
Lisa
Glad to hear you are feeling better! I am going to try and kill 2 birds with 1 stone! Everytime I get up to press something I am going to do 10 jumping jacks. Exercising and quilting at the same time. I will let you know how it goes.
My New Years plan...goal...get one of those Minick & Simpson bags!
