Polly blogged a couple of weeks ago about her lack of a "real" studio. It certainly is a hot topic among all the fiber artists I know. I don't have a studio either, but I do have a house. Our house. My husband's and my house is essentially my studio. In other words, my stuff is all over. I had taken over a spare bedroom and that initially was the studio. Fine and dandy until I outgrew it. It is still in use, but mostly as storage. Lots and lots of fabric and tools are neatly (and sometimes not so neatly) stored. My books quickly outgrew the shelf space assigned to it in the spare bedroom and now all of my quilt and art books are in the larger bookcase in the living room. The dining room table gets a workout also. It is 11' by 3' of great "lay out and see how all this fabric works together" space. Occasionally we eat there too. A couple of months ago I stumbled upon my latest studio treasure. A drafting table! Not just any drafting table, but a huge, industrial, "fiesta red" drafting table. It was love at first sight. It happily sits by the window in, yes, the living room. Doesn't everyone want a huge, industrial, "fiesta red" drafting table in their living room? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Oh, it is a wonderful thing! The table top slants from laying flat to almost 90 degrees and the whole thing can be raised and lowered with a foot pedal. It is at a

That's a great table! Lucky you! I know what you mean about stuff being all over. Only quilters are welcomed here and they totally understand! Love the horses!
Laurie,
If my eyes do not deceive me, there seem to be templates of horses on that drafting table. Could that mean a quilt with them could be upcoming? If so, may Polly be coming up with a rug with a similar motif? I bought the Folk Art Friends book, because of the matching Airedale rug and quilt. I raised the breed for more than 22years.
My still best love are horses. I used to compete extensively until I became disabled but still have 2 retired show horses. Just thinking of what you two could come up with a quilt and a rug on similar themes leaves me thrilled.
I will be watching closely in anticipation.

Oh, what a nice drafting table. The living room seems the perfect place for a drafting table to me. My whole house is a sewing studio, too, with the "living room" at the heart of it. Your horse templates are beautiful.

Laurie what a great idea....emailing the hubby right now to see if there is an unused similar table just 'lying' around the offices. :-)

Yes, keep watching......look for something this winter with those horses. I think Polly might have something in the works too!

Oohh toooo cool Laurie!! Yes, i can imagine love at first sight with this table! LOL!
It's nice to know i am not the only one that doesn't have a designated "stuido" and after outgrowing the small designated space have also taken over several other rooms of the house. Gulp! I thank God daily for my tolerant loving husband!! hahaha!!!
hugs,
Bren :)
Great idea for a work table!!!
I don't have a studio either and really have to clean up good after I sew in the kitchen. I was using our bedroom, however the mess was not so romantic!!
Love the horses!! Plaids and polka dots are the best!
