You know what they say about the cobbler's children who need new shoes? Well, I can relate. I have been promising my husband a quilt for quite awhile now. Something always gets in the way. I started this quilt over 3 years ago and I just finished putting on the binding 2 days ago. Many, many quilts have been started and finished in that time. THEY all had a deadline. Bill's quilt did not and it always was shifted to the bottom on the pile. It was worked on in fits and starts and believe me, I was starting to get a little tired of looking at it half finished. Well, no longer. It is done and yes, it is huge. Oh, it's approximately 98" square and it is hand quilted. I don't expect any congratulations on that.... it's just what I do. I hand quilt. But.... the next quilt might be a bit smaller.

Beautiful quilt Laurie - I LOVE string quilts - in fact I have made several blocks very similar to yours (but more scrappy)and I should get them out and sew them together! Thanks for the reminder!

Oh, but you should be congratulated on hand quilting your husband's quilt Laurie, when other designers are sending theirs out to be machine quilted, you still do yours by hand, stunning, and inspires me to keep working on handquilting a stitch at a time.

LOL the one my girlfriend and I made that is this same pattern and king size is still only a top! Ack! We have yet to quilt it and i think it's been... ahh... 2-3 years now?? :P Seeing yours is a definite motivator! Yay that Bill got his quilt!! LOL!!

Beautiful quilt, Laurie. Glad you and Polly have ventured into the world of blogging. Now I might have a better chance of keeping up with what fellow Floridian and Airedale- lover, Polly, is doing. I have wanted to take a class with her for a long time now. Maybe now I can know where she will be.
Actually, I had come over to buy my Semper Fi kit and they are all gone! I just learned about them less than a week ago and I still missed out. Bought last year's and wanted to help out this year as well. Sorry guess they went out so fast.

Some quilts are just destined to wait a bit longer than others before they are finished. I think they are the ones that get loved the most!

The pattern can be found in our book "Everyday Folk Art". It is the string pieced LeMoyne Star. The one in the book is 12 blocks (3 x 4) and this one is 25 blocks (5 x 5), but it is made exactly the same. Thanks
