Austin Bluebird Sampler

Say hello to our new Block of the Month - The Austin Bluebird Sampler.

We are tickled to  to announce that this Block of the Month subscription is starting right now - HERE

You can find it at MinickandSimpson.com.

You will get 12 installments.  Each month you will get the complete pattern, and all the fabric to make a section of this quilt.  It has 6 appliqué blocks and many easily pieced blocks.

The quilt was inspired by an antique quilt found at an estate sale in Texas.  The folky bird appliqué quilt charmed us and we wanted to reproduce it somehow.  The bottom left hand block with the pair of bluebirds is from the original quilt.  We designed some more appliqué blocks and stitched them all together with an assortment of pieced blocks.  This sampler quilt is like many sampler album quilts of the late 19th century.

Your monthly kits will use Minick and Simpson fabric - from collections Grant Park, Lexington. Crazy For Red (our newest collection that will unveil soon) and Bella Solids from Moda Fabrics.

Your subscription price is $26.95 per month with the shipping added on automatically - $32.95.  This will be charged to your credit card monthly for the next 12 months.  This is for US shipping.  If you are an international customer - please email me HERE and we can make arrangements.

The subscription is very limited.  We only have so much fabric here to fulfill this Block of the Month.
We will start shipping in late July.  The finished top measures 75" x 87"

Join us, won't you - in making the Austin Bluebird Sampler!

when you enlarge the patterns the vine sizes are 1/8 inch not 1/2 inch
why are your directions for 1/2 inch bias tape??? it looks bad when you
try and curve it.
i was taught to make seperate
templates from freezer paper and then the vines can be turned easily and will lay flat. joylene

I am working on month 5 of the Austin Bluebird Sampler. I would like to know if corrections are available to make the Snail's Trail block like a Snail's Trail block without the pinwheel in the middle. Pictures do not match. One picture looks like a Snail's Trail and the other has a pinwheel in the middle.
Thank you so much for making this pattern. I am having so much fun with it, and as I am a novice piecer, it is a wonderful challenge for me.

Will there ever be just the pattern so I can use my own favorite fabrics??

Where do I find updates to the pattern? Found a couple of error so wondered if there was an update available.

I want to finish the quilt to fit a queen size bed. What suggestions do you have in regards to borders?

Also, there is an error in month 6: Background fabric cut 1 2 3/8 then cut twice for 3 triangles. It should say cut 2 2 3/8 not 1.

Is there a place we can go for all the current corrections?

Is the decorative outline stitching around the motifs done before quilting or after?

Laurie said...

Andi - This blogger format doesn't give me your email. Leave another comment with your email and I can contact you. I can send you the updated Month 5 if you need it.

Mrstree - The decorative stitching is big stitch hand quilting and it was done when I did the quilting of the quilt.

Thanks

Is there a correction for Month 11, step 4 Windmill? The Red 3 7/8" square cut in half does not match up with the 4 1/4" background cut in half twice or the green 4 1/4" square cut in half twice. Is there a place we can go for known corrections? Thank you, Linda

Oh, I see the problem with Month 11, step 4, Windmill. The instructions for the red and green need to be reversed. Red's instruction should be with green and green's instruction should be red.

BTW, I love working this pattern. It has all been clear and easy and fun. The applique is large and not difficult. The colors are great. Moda has been very generous with the fabrics.
