The Ikats are Here!

The Midwinter Reds woven ikats have landed! You remember these lovelies….. we made our scarves with them.  We got in a few bolts of the Dots…..

And the Zigzag…...
Both of these are the exact same color and the photo on the top with the scarf on the mannequin is the better photo.  It's the same red that's in the Midwinter Reds prints that are now in your favorite quilt shop.  Anyway….. there are here, but won't be for long.  I have kits for the polka dot scarf HERE and the zigzag scarf HERE.

These will make a big dent in your "make it for Christmas" list.  Each kit has enough fabric to make 2 scarves - one to keep and one to give as a gift. The instruction sheet is included in the kit.

We all have grand ambitions to make Holiday gifts every year.  This fast and easy kit will let you actually do it.

Do you make gifts? Have you started? Have you just given up? Tell us….. Comment here before Midnight Monday November 4th and you could win a bundle of stuff that we brought home from International Quilt Market in Houston.  First is a Fat 1/8th Bundle of Grant Park.

Then there is THE NEW pre-cut from Moda - the Slice™!

The Slice™is a diagonal cut of a Layer Cake™. Nifty, huh!  This Slice™ is many shades of Bella Solids in blues, aquas, yellows, and greens and there is a pattern to make the zigzag quilt on the label.  You will need more of one of the Bella Solids for background - or you can just play around with the newest pre-cut on the block and see what you come up with.

Also in the give-away are some packages of Spinning Star piecing papers.  We love these.  They make half square triangles in a jiffy and they are super easy to work with. We met Liz, the designer at Quilt Market and she sent us home with a bundle.

There is lots more people, but I'm just going to let you be surprised.

No, I don't make gifts..don't wanna give someone something they don't like and can't take back. Don't even buy cause I don't want them having to mess with returns. Cash is about all I do anymore (except occas. the younger kids). Giveaways look GREAT! And the scarves are lovely.

Wow, super giveaway ladies and I love your scarfs...gorgeous! Okay, I try to make gifts for family for Christmas, yes. I wanted to give each of my four grand children quilts, but my health got in the way of my sewing for several months, so no go on the quilts this year. Ah well, 'Life' happens to all of us and we all just to muddle through and keep going. Who knows, I might get some small fun things made in time, don't want to give up all together. Thanks for a chance at some great quilting treasure. Hugs...

I am making a gift quilt for the holidays, but it's actually a wedding quilt for my son who is getting married on Dec. 13th (Friday) His girlfriend chose the colors, and the pattern so they should be happy with it.

I do make lots of gifts. Right now I have finished one flannel nightie for a niece and am about to begin another. I made the girls quilts last year with the same bundle of Me and My Sister fabric, but making one with a blue background and one with a pink. I backed them with flannel. This year, they are getting nighties made with the leftover flannel to match their quilts. I even have the fun, striped binding fabric left to trim them with.

Yes I try to make all of my gifts but alas that never happens. This year I have done the best with 2 quilts finished and waiting to be wrapped and 3 in various stages of completion and I am confident that I will get them done. I can think of nothing more relaxing that hand quilting while listening to Christmas music or watching an old movie.

Sometimes I do make my gifts. I do counted cross and I'm just learning to quilt so I like to give stitch gifts. I love receiving handmade gifts too.
I love those scarves and am off to order the red dot for daughter and me.

Yes...sometimes. I gave up on the BIG gifts years ago when I finally realized not only was I putting undo pressure on myself but my family as well. So I sometimes make small gifts that don't require a lot of time. Thanks for the great giveaways!!

Don't make gifts, or if I do, I do it very rarely. I too often feel that the recipient doesn't appreciate all the hours I put into the gift and it just doesn't feel worthwhile anymore. That scarf looks easy though! Thanks for the giveaway!

I love to make gifts, but most of them are for friends and some surprises for others. I have been making lots of little pillows and ornies and stuffing them with balsam so I can send a bit of northern pine to my friends. I also make quilts and wall hangings. I love Christmas and wish I had more time to make more things, lol.

I love the scarves, they are a really lovely idea. I make more and more gifts each year. Everyone I gift really appreciate what I make them and I make all manner of things such as quilts, pillows, table toppers, wall hangings, soft toys, embellished tops for the little ones and food gifts such as hampers of homemade chutneys, chocolates and Christmas bakes. I've not started in on this years gifts yet, but they are planned and there is still loads of time (famous last words and all that). Thank you for a really generous giveaway.

Yes, I make Christmas gifts year round. My problem is that I give them away before Christmas..... this year 1 gift for each immediate family member. Sweater for DH, who is 6'6" so no quick knit there. Another short sleeved sweater for daughter, needlepoint makeup case for other daughter and scarf for new son-in-law. Other son-in-law got an aran afghan last year so he's set. Am working on my machine quilting skills for options for next year!

Handmade Christmas gifts are the best! I unfortunately start a little too late and am a bit too ambitious. Oh well- if I don't finish something, then I finish it for the next holiday-be it a birthday or Christmas. There are so many great ideas for simple handmade gifts, I love thinking about what I can make. i love working on the projects. It seems to me, that -"handmade" is what makes celebrations special.

Win, win! Janita

Yes I make gifts but not for Xmas, that's just too much pressure at this time of the year. I make lap quilts for graduations and weddings. And I make jewelry just because it's fun. If someone really likes a piece I'll either make them one or give them mine. My next project is a garden fairy house. Maybe that will need a miniature quilt!

My total present giving is not all crafts, but have made some. I have made placemats in colours of the receiver's choice, a quilt, again in colours of the receiver's choice and a few knee rugs. I, too, have not wanted to inflict my choices on others, hence why I have used their colours. Have to admit that I struggled with one as it wasn't entirely what I liked colourwise, but I knew the receiver wanted it. One aboriginal print I used once for place mats looked great with an orange plain backing, so imagination and fabrics not normally in the 'comfort zone' can look really good. Just to throw in another, I have knitted gifts as well (baby rugs, jumpers etc), and been chuffed with the admiration expressed by others.

I have 2 tops done, but I'm not sure that five more will follow.

Yes, I make gifts. Usually, I will come up with an idea and think "I'll make this for ____". Then, I decide to make something similar for someone else. The next thing I know, I am making lots of gifts. Early this year, a quilt shop in Cary, NC went out of business. I purchased two small tops, and I added borders. These were for my two granddaughters. Also, I had a couple of other quilts I was working on that I decided to make for my sons. Of course, my daughter needed one. A block of the month club I was in became a quilt for me and my husband. Unless the lady I get to finish my quilts on her long-arm runs out of time, I will have made (partly or completely) six quilts as gifts this year.

I make a few gifts each year, primarily table runners that are always appreciated. The fabrics may not be Christmas, they depend on what I think the recipient would like. This year, I'm making potholders and matching towels as quick gifts for a guild exchange.

I have some MidWinter Reds with a table runner in mind. Love the scarves!! Thanks for the chance to win some Market "stash".

I love to make gifts, but sometimes there just isn't time. I've run out of people to give my quilts to, so now my give-away quilts go to QOV or Project Linus. One "home made" gift that was a big hit, were rice bags that can be heated in the microwave. I made matching zippered bags for storage and gave them to my Mom, sisters, and all my coworkers (and kept one for myself!).
