4th of July

Are you having a family filled, fun holiday weekend? We sure hope you are.Are you working on a red, white and blue project? Are you decorating with flags and things?
Here's a teaser.... this is one block from our newest quilt - which will be published in our new book in several weeks!

Polly is never at a loss for flags and such...
I wanted to post a video of James Cagney dancing to Yankee Doodle Dandy, but I couldn't find a video that wasn't all fuzzy. But I did find this and it made me smile, hope you like it too.

Happy 4th, Everyone!

Oh my gosh, what a GREAT video!!! I have always loved Jimmy Cagney and there are so many people who have only seen him in his 'tough guy' movies. I read his autobiography after I watched his amazing performance as Lon Cheney in "Man of A Thousand Faces". From the clip you shared with us I would guess that you already know that his dream was to be a "song and dance man". He loved dancing more than anything, he did not enjoy playing the 'tough guy' rolls. Thanks again for the clip. Now I will go pull out my Cagney movie collection and watch some of my old favs as I stitch on some Christmas projects. Have you ever seen the movie "The Seven Little Foy's" with Bob Hope? I noticed several dance scenes in the clip from that movie and if you haven't seen it, it is well worth a look. I keep it with my Cagney movies because of the dance scene. Thanks again and have a wonderful Independence Day. Hugs...

That stars and stripes lone star is extraordinary.

Wonderful patriotic pieces. I made up a piece and hopefully I can finish it today. Need to start earlier, next year, but I love patriotic for all summer, so it can still hang for awhile.

Great quilts and rugs! And the video clip is amazing. The music was so perfect with the dancing. Was anybody ever lighter on their feet than Cagney? I used to watch those movies on late at night when I was a kid! So stirring! Hope you have a happy 4th of July ladies!

OHG!!! thank you for the Cagney video. It was such fun. I've replayed it over & over while singing along and watching him hoof it. I don't know if he is Irish, but I strongly suspect it.Thank you a ton!!!!!

Well, that was a TON of fun. I've got to get out my vcr of YDD for another watch. And then track down the rest of the song-and-danceman movies. I never saw Jimmy as a gansta, always a hoofer.

I am old enough to remember him in the movies...but mostly I had remembered him mostly...in the "gangster" movies...and had forgotten how WELL he could dance.
Oh my could he dance.
My Dad was born on the fourth of July !!
